Food Compliant

Article

Safe for food and labelled

Anyone who works in the food industry knows this: All products must meet the strict requirements of the new European regulation EU C/2011. Many people have seen this challenge too late and are only now starting to convert their systems in accordance with standards. The American FDA regulation also sets standards that must be complied with.

Because food regulations are intended to prevent health hazards from mass transfer, many of our plastics are certified for contact with food. Components made from plastic can often considerably improve the production of confections, dairy products and meats. In contrast to metallic production parts, they require no lubrication and the risk of contaminating food is minimal. In contrast to metals, plastics are also lighter and more malleable, making existing structures faster and more precise.

Applications for plastics in the food sector

Hygiene

In the food industry, hygiene is the top priority. Plastics have the advantage of being easy to clean – with hot compressed air, amongst other techniques – and they keep food safe.

Certification

Our plastics that come into contact with food have the required certification for the food industry, and the traceability of individual parts is guaranteed.

Optical detectability

Our food-compliant plastics are also available in the easily distinguishable colour of blue. This enables optical detectability in the event of abrasion or flaking and creates additional production reliability.

International standards

Different countries, different standards! In Europe, the USA and China, the requirements for materials that can be used vary considerably. For example, meta-technik processes materials with Halal certification. We strive to implement the needs of all our customers. And to do that, we need just the correct information.

Chemical resistance

For food production, the media resistance of plastic materials is definitely a plus. Plastics are stable and resistant even with aggressive foods such as milk, tomatoes and lemon juice.

Correct choice of material

But be careful! Just because, for example, rollers are used to transport food, they do not need to be certified as being food-compliant. Anyone looking for these requirements can check out more about conveyor technology.
